Guavas are better known in our country by the name ‘peru‘ or ‘amrood‘. Although their outer texture is rough, these fruits have a smooth flesh inside along with a unique fragrance and flavor. We all have enjoyed peru sprinkled with chaat masala. The fruit is light green or yellow in color and has hard round tiny seeds within which are edible. The color of the flesh varies from white or light pink to red.

Guavas also improve the level of good cholesterol (HDL). Antioxidants present in guavas neutralize free radicals thus preventing the growth of cancer cells.
