Green Healthy Leaves
Almost every 90’s kid has grown up watching this famous cartoon series named Popeye-The Sailor Man. Since then spinach has been known to make you strong and big. Although getting bigger instantly just by eating a can of spinach is literally not possible (as shown in the cartoon), it definitely makes you healthier and active in the long run.
All leafy veggies are considered to be healthy but we will be mainly discussing the health benefits of spinach. The leaves are low in calories but rich in vitamins and minerals. Unlike other leafy vegetables, spinach leaves are bigger which makes them easy to pluck, clean and cut.
It is believed that spinach was originated in ancient Persia, which was later introduced to Nepal, China, Spain and so on. In England, it was initially called “the Spanish vegetable,” which was later shortened to the name that we use for it today. Whereas in China, it is still called “Persian Greens.”
Fresh spinach is often used in making salads and to substitute lettuce on sandwiches. The leafy vegetable gained a lot of popularity in the 1960s due to the cartoon character Popeye.
The antioxidants in spinach rejuvenate all the body cells thereby resulting in a brighter looking skin and smooth, shiny hair. Green vegetables contain chlorophyll which is very effective in controlling body heat.
Beta-carotene found in spinach helps lower the risk of asthma. It prevents your body from free radicals and also reduces the risk of heart diseases.
Vitamin K, vitamin A, magnesium, folate, manganese, calcium, vitamin C, iron, vitamin B2, potassium, and vitamin B6 are found in abundance in spinach. Apart from all these, it is also a very good source of dietary fibers and omega-3 fatty acids.
A super food when it comes to nutrients, spinach is readily available anywhere round the year. Also, growing and maintaining spinach plants is quite easy. In other words, spinach is loaded with goodness which is essential for every part of your body.
