Nature of Pulses-Bengal Gram, Black Gram, Brown Peas


Bengal Gram:

It is also referred as dark brown peas or chana. Bengal gram is considered an important nutrient amongst all the other pulses. It contains fiber, folic acid and is an excellent source of iron, zinc, sodium, selenium, copper and manganese. Soaked or sprouted Bengal gram provides a good amount of vitamins and B-complex. You can soak a small bowl of Bengal gram overnight and have it in the morning. The water can be consumed too.

Bengal gram boosts energy in the body, which is why it is a prime meal for horses. It has certain properties which help the body absorb more glucose essential in diabetic patients.

The fibers present in Bengal gram improve digestion and also treat anemia (deficiency of red cells or hemoglobin in the blood).

Bengal gram powder popularly known as besan is applied on the face to treat acne, facial hair, blemishes, scars, and pimples.

Black Gram:

We are familiar with black gram as urad dal. It is also called as black lentil or white lentil. Dals are mostly prepared on a daily basis. To maintain variety, there are many different types of dal available. Black gram is rich in fat, protein, carbohydrates and vitamin B. It acts as an essential pulse for women’s health too, due to its rich content of iron, folic acid, potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Additionally, consumption of urad dal improves cardiovascular health, digestive disorders, and level of cholesterol in the body.

Brown Peas:

Have cholesterol lowering property as they contains both soluble as well as non soluble fibers, magnesium, and folate. They have ample of zinc and copper which help in improving immunity. Brown peas are a rich source of dietary iron thus help in weight loss as well. Including chickpeas (brown peas) in your diet also gives you protection against certain types of cancer.
